Lois (Hovelsrud) Bagley – OBIT

Lois Mavis Bagley died peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile.

Lois was born Lois Mavis Hovelsrud on January 22, 1928 in Crookston to Lawrence and Anne Hovelsrud.  Lois spent her childhood and attended school in Crookston.   After graduating from high school in 1945, Lois lived in Fergus Falls working for her uncle’s Law firm.  Lois returned to Crookston in 1949 and worked at the Polk County Court House.  This is where she met her future husband Emil Bagley.    The couple were married on March 10,1951.  Shortly after they were married, they moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where Emil earned his Master’s Degree in Social Work.   While in St. Louis, Lois and Emil were house parents at the St. Louis Christian Home for boys.  They both loved children and gave the children love that they craved.  Lois would talk how the young boys loved to wrestle with Emil or sit on Lois’ lap for story time.

In 1955, they moved back to Crookston where Lois worked for several years as a legal secretary.  She was dedicated to her work and retired after her son and daughter finished college.  Lois and Emil enjoyed many summers at the family cabin on Union Lake.  Many family gatherings were at the Bagley cabin.  Lois and her sisters would host 4th of July potlucks for 40+ relatives.  Laughter and hilarious cackles could be heard from the kitchen.   They worked hard but everyone knew they were having a great time.

Lois was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston where she was confirmed and married.  She sang in the choir and served on many church committees and guilds.  Lois will be remembered for her reliability and kindness.  Blessed be the memory of Lois Bagley.

Loving family members include her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Melissa Bagley of Midland MI; daughter Jill and son-in-law Bruce Krueger of Crookston; grandchildren John and wife Kali Bagley of Grand Haven, MI; Kara and husband Brad Keyes of Midland, MI; Olivia and husband Andrew Moraczewski of Elko, MN; Jack Krueger of White Bear Lake, MN.  Great grandchildren include Evan and Brooke Bagley; Leonard and Aria Keyes; Isaac and Eleanor Moraczewsi.  Lois also has 1 surviving sister, Joan Westlake in Detroit Lakes, MN.  Lois was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Betty Armacost, Lorraine Tattle, Norma Ross and brother Morris Hovelsrud.

A prayer service will be held with a time for sharing memories on Monday August 19, 2024 at 6:00 at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home.  Visitation with the family will begin at 5:00 PM.   The memorial service celebration Lois’ life will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston on August 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM, with Gregory Isaacson officiating.  Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a memorial in Lois’ honor to either Trinity Lutheran Church, Crookston or Fair Meadow nursing home in Fertile, MN.   Please go to www.stenshoelhouske.com and follow the prompt to Lois’ obituary page for further details.
