MAN COMING AT POLICE WITH A HATCHET SHOT IN CROOKSTON

On May 16th, 2024, at approximately 12:53 a.m., Officers from the Crookston Police Department came upon a man in the street who was swinging a hatchet in the area of East 7th Street in Crookston. Upon initial contact, the man rapidly approached the officers, and less lethal means were deployed. The man continued to advance at officers with the hatchet, and they shot him. Officers provided life-saving care, but the man later died at the hospital.

The Crookston Police Department has asked the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate this incident.

This is an ongoing active criminal investigation and no further details will be released at this time.

This is an isolated incident, and there is no concern for public safety.

The CPD was assisted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, and Crookston Area Ambulance.
