On Saturday, January 19 at 11:30 p.m. officers with the Grand Forks Police Department responded to a report of a hit and run in progress on South Washington Street approaching the intersection of Demers Ave.
Upon arrival, Officers found a white sedan had collided into a traffic signal pole. The male driver was deceased.
The Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru Ambulance assisted with the incident.
The Grand Forks Police Departments Crash Investigation Team responded and is investigating the scene. The Unmanned Air Support Team also assisted with the scene.
The victim information is being withheld pending family notification.

UPDATE 10:50 a.m.
According to witnesses, the white sedan struck the back end of a pickup while both were traveling Northbound on the 900 block of South Washington Street. The pickup which was struck pulled over while the white sedan went around this struck vehicle and continued Northbound on Washington Street. According to witnesses the white vehicle then traveled into the southbound lane of Washington Street while going Northbound, then drifted back into the northbound lane of Washington where it collided with the signal pole. There was only one occupant of this vehicle who was deceased at the scene. The driver was transported to the UND Forensic Pathology Center.
Only two vehicles were involved in the accident. All vehicles and drivers have been identified in the crash.
The crash is still under investigation and the name is still being withheld pending family notification.
UPDATE 5:53 P.M.
The deceased driver involved in the vehicle collision at Demers and Washington St has been identified as Shaun Sabin of Grand Forks. He was 38 years of age.
