MAPLE LAKE PAVILION GETS OKAY TO HOST JOHNNY HOLM BAND CONCERT MAY 26

Jake Snyder, Planning and Zoning Administrator for Polk County, made the annual presentation to the Polk County Commissioners for a large gathering permit request by Duaine Sanden to host the Johnny Holm Band Concert at Maple Lake Pavilion.  The annual event will be scheduled for 7:30 p.m. following the board’s approval of the permit.

Events expecting more than 1,000 people need to go through the large gathering permit process explained Snyder. “It’s an annual event for the pavilion there,” said Snyder.  “The pavilion has been in operation since 1928 and Mr. Sanden has owned it since 2006.  He has acted in good faith with all his prior events and we haven’t had many complaints.  It’s a good event for the Maple Lake Area, the community of Mentor so we recommended approval.  Any event over 1,000 people triggers that large gathering review.  We’re glad it has been smooth in the past and we hope this event is good for all that go.”

Included in the plan is an emergency action plan with Mentor Fire and Rescue that was reviewed with the State Fire Marshall Office, hire an eight-officer security staff from Pro Dog Security in addition to two to four Polk County Sheriff’s Deputies.  Only one member of the public provided comment during an open commentating phase of the permit application.  Zach Fore, who owns the home to the south of the pavilion, said he was in support of event adding that they have done a good job picking up all the trash in a reasonable time period after the dance.
