Marie C. Anderson – Obit

Marie C. Anderson, 94, Ada, MN, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Benedictine Care Community in Ada.

Marie was born on August 27, 1927, to Anthony and Anna (Platt) Kappes. She grew up on a farm in Pleasant View Township (1 of 12 children) where she attended country school through 8th grade. Marie then entered the workforce as a childcare provider for various local families.

On July 9, 1947, Marie married Ole Stadum. They lived on a farm near Borup. Together they had two children: Anthony and Barbara. On May 20, 1949, Ole was tragically killed in a car accident.

On June 17, 1952, Marie married Virgil Anderson. They lived on a farm south of Ada. Together they had four children: Kevin, Keith, Kurt, and Kathleen.

In 1980, they retired from farming and moved to their lake home on South Twin Lake. Virgil passed away on July 1, 2005. Marie moved back to Ada in October 2011, residing at the Benedictine Care Community since 2019.

Marie was a woman of many talents. In addition to raising six children, she was a master at cooking, baking, ceramics, sewing, embroidering, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and her biggest passion, gardening (vegetables & flowers).

Marie had the most beautiful flower gardens at her lake home on South Twin Lake. She would spend countless hours in her flower gardens during the summer, expanding them a little bit each year. Once in bloom, she would make flower arrangements and share them with the parishioners at St. Anne’s in Naytahwaush. She also had the local garden club visit from time to time to view her flower gardens.

Marie was a woman of deep, deep faith. There wasn’t a Sunday Mass or Day of Obligation that she missed.  It was her faith she turned to throughout her life to lift her up and sustain her during times of great loss.

Marie is survived by her son, Anthony (Kathleen) Stadum, Green Valley, AZ; son, Kevin (Tamara) Anderson, Ada, MN; son, Kurt (Joyce) Anderson, Ada, MN; and daughter, Kathleen (Jim) Ruebke, Ada, MN. She is also survived by grandchildren, Christopher (Lizzy) Boerger, Melinda (Beau) Brandt, Melissa (Allan) Fetterer, Evan (Taylor) Mattila, Brandon (Kinsey) Anderson, Kristina Anderson, Jordan (Eric) Johnson, Chelsea (Jimmy) Ellefson, and Andrew Stadum; and great grandchildren, Todd Boerger, Emma Boerger, Kali Brandt, Loken Brandt, Briggs Brandt, Addison Fetterer, Kennedy Fetterer, Payton Mattila, Kase Mattila, Cannon Anderson, McCoy Anderson, Emily Johnson, Gavin Johnson, Elodie Ellefson, Nora Ellefson, and Ivy Ellefson.

Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Ole Stadum; husband, Virgil Anderson; son, Keith Anderson; daughter, Barbara (Bobbie) Boerger; and son-in-law, Nick Boerger Jr.
