Marilyn Jane Weiland, 70, of Euclid, MN, passed away Thursday morning, April 7, 2022, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND with her family at her side. She had been bravely battling health issues for several years.
Marilyn was born in Crookston, MN on August 17, 1951, the only daughter of Loren and Gertrude (Mahle) Parkin. She grew up in Euclid with 7 brothers, which made her younger years quite interesting. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Euclid and attended school in Euclid through the 8th grade. Marilyn then went to high school in Crookston where she graduated with the Class of 1969. After graduating, she enrolled in the Cosmetology program at the Thief River Falls, MN Technical College and upon completion of her coursework and graduation in 1971 began working at a Salon in East Grand Forks. Marilyn was united in marriage to her sweetheart, Henry Weiland, on September 25, 1971, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Euclid. Their marriage would be blessed with 2 sons, Chris and Nathan. She continued to work in East Grand Forks for a few years before trading her scissors and comb for a tractor and planter. She worked alongside Henry on their farm for many years learning to run all the pieces of equipment it took to keep a successful farming operation going while also keeping the books. And she had fun doing it!
In 1990 Marilyn purchased a Euclid business owned by Curt and Beatrice Kramer and began running her own bar and restaurant. She and Henry named their new venture the One N Only because in Euclid that’s what it was. In 2002, their son Chris decided to take over what Marilyn and Henry made into a family business. Marilyn helped Chris with the transition for five years before officially enjoying retirement.
Marilyn will be remembered by friends and family for her ability to keep the mood light and fun no matter what the situation. She enjoyed spending the summer at her camper in Warren with her friends, going golfing, hanging out around the fire, and making the occasional trip to the lake for fishing. She took a lot of pride in coloring on her downtime and got excited to go find new books and pencils. The one thing family seems to agree on is that her vast array of leisurely activities makes it hard, to sum up, anything about her.
Loving family members include Henry, Marilyn’s soul mate for over 50 years; their sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Melanie Weiland and Nathan and Stephanie Weiland, all of Euclid; 9 grandchildren: Erin Wilson, Timothy Netland, Ariel Netland, Erica (Seth) Perry, Skylar Weiland, Chris Kiernan, Wyatt Weiland, Alice Proffer, and Shaylynne Kiernan; 5 great-grandchildren: Karter, Emmalynn, MaKenzlie, Analise, and Kathryn; brother: Keith Parkin and his wife, Kim, of Crookston; 3 sisters-in-law: Maureen Parkin of East Grand Forks, MN, Tammy Parkin of Crookston, and Carol Parkin of Euclid; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, loving in-laws, and friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Loren and Gertrude Parkin; 6 brothers: Robert, Howard, Russ, Wayne, Curt, and Neil Parkin; and parents-in-law, Gregory and Helen Weiland. May God richly bless the memory of Marilyn Jane Weiland.
Mass of Christian Burial for Marilyn Weiland will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Euclid, MN at 11 AM, Tuesday, April 12, 2022, with The Rev. Xavier Ilango, presiding. Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. The Mass will be live streamed by going to Marilyn’s obituary page at www.stenshoelhouske.com and clicking on the prompt to view. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Crookston, later in the spring.
