Marvin Halstad – Obit

Marvin D. Halstadage 85, Fertile, MN, died Monday, October 7, 2019, at his home under the care of his family and hospice.

Marvin Donavan Halstad was born January 2, 1934 to Nick and Ovedia Halstad, in Halstad, MN.

They moved to Melvin, MN when he was six years old.  He attended country school through the 8th grade.  He was confirmed at Varnes Lutheran Church, rural Fertile.

Marvin had 3 brothers and 5 sisters: Harold, Eleanor, Beatrice, Loren, Beverly, Duane, Sonja and Baby Mary Beth, who died at birth.

He married Julie Stine on July 3, 1954.  They have 2 daughters and 2 sons:  Jeanne, Joni, Jeff and Michael.

Marvin farmed for many years, worked road construction throughout the country and worked for Crystal Sugar for 25 years before retiring.

Marvin is survived by his wife and children, as well as 9 grandchildren: Mitch, Evan, Emily, Lana, Donavan, Derek, Ashley, Ben and Shana; 10 great grandchildren: Eli, Mason, Levi, Abby, Nickolas, Bentley, Braxton Lucy, Lincoln, Brett and  great great grandchildren: Landon and Willow;  siblings: Beatrice Hauge, Minnetonka; Loren (Evelyn) Halstad, Hawley, MN; Beverly Pierce, Texas; Duane (Judy) Halstad, Elk River, MN; Sonja (Craig) Anderson, Shelly, MN and many nieces and nephews. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, baby Mary Beth and Eleanor, and brother, Harold.

Funeral: 11:00AM , Monday, October 14, 2019, at Maple Bay Free Lutheran Church, Maple Bay, MN.
Visitation: Sunday, October 13, 2019, from 5:00PM-7:00PM with a 6:30PM prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial: Varnes Lutheran  Cemetery,  rural Fertile, MN.
