Mary Ann Nordby – Obit

Mary Ann Nordby, 75, Ada, MN, died Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

Mary Ann was born August 1, 1943, the only child of J. Kenneth and Lucille (Kerchner) in Louisville, Ohio. After graduation, she went to Nurses Training. Mary Ann entered the United States Army on September 7, 1965, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. She served in Korea for 2 years. She was honorably discharged July 21, 1967 and worked as a nurse in a mission in B.C. for a year.

Mary Ann wanted out of nursing; she was born again and attended Bible School in B.C., where she met her future husband, Douglas McRae. They lived in Vancouver for a time, and then went to a village near Lillooet, B. C., where she kept the accounts for her husband’s small engine repair. They moved to Salmon Arm, B.C., where Doug later passed away after 30 years of marriage in 1999.

Mary Ann met John Nordby in 2000, and they were united in marriage in September 2008 in Ada, MN; where they made their home.

Mary Ann was an organist in several Ohio churches when she was young. She had an encyclopedic memory and was second highest in her Registered Nursing exam. She loved color, astronomy, classical music, and had many friends in Canada.

Mary Ann was a chauffeur for both her husbands, having often driven the Coquihalla Highway and logging roads in B. C. She broke her wrist a few years ago and could no longer drive but enjoyed watching cooking shows and she helped her husband to be a better cook for the family. Her health plummeted due to her fall; her faith never wavered. Always feeling that the Lord had been her heavenly matchmaker. Mary Ann’s faith was very important to her.  During retirement years she had many health challenges but she faced each one with faith and hope in God.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband John “Jack” Nordby, Ada, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Douglas.
