Mary Anne Taus, 82, of Bemidji, MN, passed away early Sunday evening, October 31st, 2021, in the Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND, with her loving family at her side to comfort her. She had been bravely battling health issues for several months.
Mary was born in Crookston on May 20, 1939, the youngest of 5 children of the union of Floyd and Lulu (Fleming) Morlan. She grew up as a member of the Church of Christ and attended Crookston schools graduating from Central High School with the Class of 1957. On November 1,1958 Mary was united in marriage to the love of her life, George L.Taus, at the Church of Christ in Crookston. George and Mary were both employed at Midway Grocery in Crookston as they began their family, which would grow to include George K., Denis, David, Cindy, and Jennifer. George would soon enroll at Mayville (ND) State Teachers’ College, commuting for four years from their Crookston home. He began his teaching career at McIntosh and Oslo before he, Mary, and the kids moved to Climax, MN in 1970, where he taught and coached for his high school alma mater. Mary and George raised their family in a very loving Christian home. She was later employed as a records clerk for several years with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The most important job to Mary was being a loving wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma. She was always there to share her love and support with her family and friends.
In retirement Mary and George moved to Bemidji, MN in the late 1990’s. Their golden years were spent on Big Turtle Lake and they always looked forward to visits from the grandkids and great-grandkids, catching up with all the news of their activities. Later they moved near Lake Bemidji. Sadly, George passed away on July 12, 2018.
Mary is lovingly survived by her 4 living children: George K. (Jean) Taus of Bemidji, MN, David Taus of Mountain Iron, MN, and Cindy Martine-Barstad and Jennifer (Mark) Klemens, of Bemidji; 11 grandchildren: Chelsy (Derek) Schmitz, Morgan Taus, Raquel (Jordan) Lanz, Branden Taus, Jason Martine, Ashley Martine (Jesse Castaneda), Amber Barstad (Brandon Headbird), Jared Barstad, Blake (Mandie) Amon, Kathryn Nelson (fiancé, Peter Korhonen), and Jennifer “Jenna” Klemens; and 21 great-grandchildren: Destiny, Paisley, Azalea and Luxyn Schmitz, Jesse Jr., Jace, Joel, Amaya, and Abriana Castaneda, Ellianna and Layla Headbird, Lance Jr. and Veahra Taus, DelilahRae and Trinity Lanz, Abbilene, Austin, and Amelia Amon, and Hannah, Ava, and Keegan Nelson. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Mayzelle Morlan of Bemidji, MN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Kathie Taus of Hillsboro, ND, Sharon and John Scheff of Middle River, MN, and Virgil Taus (Milo Pinkerton) of Minneapolis; together with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to George, her beloved husband and best friend of 59 years, Mary is preceded in death by their son, Denis Lee “Denny” Taus, who died on April 11, 2014; son-in-law, Jason Martine, who died on March 14, 1994; great-grandson, Jax Lanz, who died on October 13, 2014; her parents, Floyd and Lou Morlan; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Robert Klemens; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ed and Marie Morlan, Robert and Rosalie Morlan, and Richard Morlan; and nephews, Paul Morlan, Steven Morlan, David Niemann, and Mark Niemann. May the memory of Mary Anne Taus be forever treasured.
The funeral service for Mary Taus will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2021, in the Church of Christ, 321 5th Avenue South, Crookston, MN, with Pastor David Johnson, officiating. Visitation will be in the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, on Sunday from 5 to 7:30 PM, with a prayer service and sharing of memories at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue at the Church for one hour prior to the funeral Monday. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
