She attended elementary school at St. Michael’s Catholic School and later graduated from Mahnomen High School with the class of 1946. After high school, Mary entered the workforce doing clerical work. On December 31, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to Conrad Christianson at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Mahnomen. The couple moved to Ulen and started their family. They were blessed with four children. In 1952, they moved to the farm east of Ulen to make their home. After the children were school age, Mary worked for the Ulen Creamery for several years. During retirement, Conrad and Mary enjoyed spending their winters in Texas. On January 20, 2009, Conrad passed away while in Texas. Mary continued to live on the farm until 2019 when she moved to Viking Manor Assisted Living.

Mary’s hands were never idle. She enjoyed knitting, hardanger, needlepoint, crocheting, canning, and baking. She was very hardworking, loved her family, and had a deep faith that was evident in her day-to-day living. While living on the farm, she tended to her large garden and its abundant produce. In her younger years, Mary was a member of the Homemaker’s Club and more recently she liked being able to make and have coffee with her friends at the Ulen Senior Center.

Mary is survived by her four children: Kari (Duane) Schouveiller of Mahnomen, MN, Mark (Shelley Lunder) Christianson of Ulen, Lois (Wayne) Buckley of Laporte, MN, and Cris (Lori) Christianson of Solvang, CA; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
