MEET THE CANDIDATES FOR CROOKSTON SCHOOL BOARD

The candidates running for election to the Crookston School Board in the special election are Jim McBride and Mike Theis.  We asked each candidate to introduce themselves and why they are running.

Q: Would you please tell us about yourself?

Jim: My name is Jim McBride.  I have McBride’s Automotive here in Crookston, MN and I’m running for school board.

Mike: My name is Mike Theis.  I’m married to Amy.  We’ve lived in Crookston for 30 years.  She is a lifelong resident; I’ve been here for 30 years.  We have two children who both attended Crookston School District – Jared, who is now 20, and Gretchen, who is a senior in Crookston High and is 17.  We live north of Crookston and have for several years.  Otherwise, we lived in town.

Q: Why are you running?

Jim: I like working with kids and always have.  I live in the community and for me, I always want to do something to help while in your community.  Volunteer for things, get involved with things, and this is one of the things I feel strongly about that I want to do.

Mike: I think Crookston School is heading in the right direction under the new superintendent.  He has implemented a number of things.  I’ve met with him and he’s leading the district in the right path. With the departure of Kari Miller, I’d like to pick up that torch and continue on with the direction the school district is running in.  Do we have some improvements to do? We should and we do.  Nothing is complete, it should always a learning process.  I think we’re on the right path and we need to continue that.  That’s why I’m running.

Q: Anything you would like to add?

Jim: I think that I would be a good representative of the community on the school board and I hope that you vote for me.

Mike: An elected official should represent the citizens and the residents of the district.  They shouldn’t come in with their own personal agenda.  If there is a vote to made that is what I will do. I will represent the residents and citizens of the independent school district to the best of my ability.  You have my guarantee on that.  I believe Crookston School District is on the right path and I want to be part of that.
