MEET THE NEW TEACHERS AT HIGHLAND AND WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Crookston Public Schools has four new teachers in the elementary schools for the 2020-2021 school year.  The new teachers are below –

ELIZABETH ERICKSON
Elizabeth Erickson has been a long-term substitute teacher in the Crookston School District and comes back to Crookston after teaching preschool at Hawley last year.  “I’m from Barnesville originally,” said Erickson. “I went to UMC and graduated with a degree in elementary education and early childhood education. This past year I taught preschool in Hawley, and now I’m back in Crookston again to teach kindergarten.”

Erickson said it will be an interesting year with COVID going on, but she’s excited to be back in Crookston. “It will definitely be an interesting year with all the COVID restrictions going on,” said Erickson. “But I’m really excited to try out kindergarten. I student taught in kindergarten in Fertile and liked it. I also long-termed subbed at Highland Elementary School in 2018. So, I’m excited to be back in the Crookston District and to try out kindergarten.”

DAN ROONEY
Dan Rooney graduated from the University of North Dakota and will be teaching sixth-grade special education at Highland. “I grew up in Belgrade, MN,” said Rooney. “That’s about three and a half or four hours from here, depending on how fast you drive. I went to school at the University of North Dakota, and I student taught in Becker. Originally was a physical education teacher, got into doing some para work, switched over to special education, and got my masters. I’m teaching sixth-grade special education here.”

Rooney said he’s ready for the school year to being. “It will definitely be different, but I’m working forward to the year,” said Rooney. “I’m ready to start. I’m readying to go; feeling good.”

TRACY HOFFMAN
Tracy Hoffman will teach first through sixth-grade music as well as fifth and sixth-grade choir. “I’ll be teaching music here, first through sixth, and fifth and sixth-grade choir.  I grew up in Fergus Falls. I went to college in Bemidji, and then I taught band in Atkin, MN, and then I moved to Shakopee.”

Hoffman said the changes from COVID will make the upcoming year and adventure. “I’m excited to meet everybody,” said Hoffman. “And it’s going to be an adventure for sure.”  

TANYA REITMEIER
Tanya Reitmeier is from Fisher and will teach third grade at Highland this year. “I will be teaching third grade this year at Highland Elementary,” said Reitmeier. “I was raised just outside of Fisher. Tim and Carol Wagner are my parents. My dad is a farmer outside of town. My mom taught piano lessons. I’m the oldest of four in my family. Now that I’m a Reitmeier as well, I’m also a part of another large family, and I’m living out on the Reitmeier Farm with my in-laws Everett and Joan Reitmeier. We are moving into one of the buildings there momentarily until we figure out where we want to land for sure.”

Reitmeier said she’s excited for the school year and to be back in the area with her family. “It’s been a crazy year this year with COVID,” said Reitmeier. “And excited about our school year, we’re about to embark on, and it’s going to be a crazy adventure for all of us. But, I’m happy to be here and back in the area with all of my family. Ready for the year to come.”
