Michelle Renee Vesey – OBIT

Michelle Renee Vesey, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, nurse, and friend, peacefully completed her journey after a courageous battle with Huntington’s Disease on July 22, 2026. Though her illness brought many challenges, it never diminished the incredible heart, unwavering faith, and boundless love that defined her life.

Michelle was born on November 17, 1977, in Crookston, MN, to John Larson and Charlene Brekken. She grew up alongside her older brother, Adam Larson. From a young age, Michelle embraced every opportunity, participating in sports including Taekwondo, where she learned discipline, and perseverance. She also competed in pageants, and was crowned Miss Crookston in 1995. She graduated from Crookston High School in 1996, carrying with her the same warmth, confidence, and compassion that would define her life.

On September 16, 2000, Michelle married her best friend, Joseph Vesey of Warren, MN. They shared many adventures and memories together. Joe and Michelle built their life in Detroit Lakes, MN. Their greatest blessing arrived on April 10, 2003, when they welcomed their daughter, Lauren. Becoming Lauren’s mother was the greatest joy of Michelle’s life. Lauren was not only her pride and joy but was also her very best friend.

Michelle answered her calling by becoming a surgical nurse. Nursing was far more than a career, it was her life’s purpose. She poured her heart into caring for others, comforting others, and treating every patient with dignity, kindness, and compassion. Whether caring for patients, supporting coworkers, or helping friends and family, Michelle always put others before herself. Helping others wasn’t just something she did,its who she was.

Michelle was truly a friend to everyone she met, and everyone who knew her, loved her. She had a gift for making people feel welcome, cared for, and important. Her heart was bigger than words can describe, and her selflessness touched many lives,

Her faith was the foundation of her life and carried her through every season. Even as the disease changed so much, it never took away her love for God, her family, or those around her. She faces life’s greatest challenges with grace, courage, and hope.

Outside of caring for others, Michelle had a passion for music. She especially loved ‘80s rock, and was a devoted fan of Motley Crue, and New Kids on the Block. She found joy in attending concerts, singing along to her favorite songs, and filling every room with music. If you knew Michelle, you knew there was almost always music playing somewhere nearby.

Michelle is preceded in death by her father, John Larson; and her brother, Adam Larson; along with other friends and family members.

Though our hearts are broken, we find peace knowing that Michelle’s journey is complete and she is now free in God’s beautiful kingdom. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

May Michelle’s legacy live on. In honor of her, seek out kindness to others around you. Always go on that adventure. Go to that concert. Lastly, turn on your favorite rock song, turn it up a little bit louder, and take a moment to listen for her.
