MINNESOTA ORGANIZATIONS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY FOR HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE GRANTS

Minnesota organizations are encouraged to apply for the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants program, which supports projects that seek to preserve and enhance access to Minnesota’s cultural and historical resources and support projects of enduring value for the cause of history and historic preservation across the state.

Eligible applicants include formal 501(c)(3) nonprofits, units of local or state government, educational institutions, or federally recognized tribal organizations residing in Minnesota. 

Grants are available for history and historic preservation projects in two funding tiers.

Large Grants
-Over $10,000
-Awarded annually
-Next deadline: May 31, 2024 (required pre-application), July 26, 2024 (final application)

Small Grants
-$10,000 or less
-Awarded quarterly
-Next deadlines: July 12, 2024 and October 22, 2024

All grants are administered through a competitive process using professional standards and criteria.

The Minnesota Historical Society received a legislative appropriation of $36.981 million for the 2024-2025 biennium, including funding for the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage (Legacy ) Grants: $8,677,000 for FY2024 and $7,035,000 for FY2025. The grants program is made possible made possible by the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment through the vote of Minnesotans on Nov. 4, 2008.
