As of this morning, barricades have been put up and placed in the westbound right turn lane on Robert Street in downtown Crookston. Motorists turning north onto Broadway from Robert Street will no longer use the right turn lane and instead will use the middle lane to make turns onto Broadway. The city has removed four parking spaces on the east and west sides of Broadway to allow for wider turning movements and better sightlines to make the intersection safer.
The work has not begun yet, but according to Crookston City Administrator Amy Finch, it will begin soon. Once started sometime this week, construction is expected to last two full days. The City of Crookston will be conducting a corridor study to evaluate the transportation and pedestrian needs of Highway 2 and will be hosting an open house sometime in November for citizens to share their opinions. The intersection of Robert Street and Broadway will be one area of focus during the study. Removing the right turn lane is a short-term solution until a permanent answer can be found.
