Mona Catherine Korsmoe – OBIT

Mona Catherine Korsmoe, 67, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully at home
Tuesday morning, May 5, 2026, with her husband Tim by her side.

Mona was born in Crookston, MN on August 26th, 1958. She was the third of nine
children in the family with her parents Jim and Mary Kujawa, there were three sisters
and five brothers. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith.

Mona was married to Kurt Heldstab on September 13th, 1980, at the Crookston
Cathedral. They lived in Crookston and had three children. Shane, Allison, who passed
shortly after birth and Nathan.

Mona held several jobs in the area while raising her family. She loved to be around
people and worked in clerical and service jobs that surrounded her with contact and
conversation. She was a caring, selfless and loving friend to everyone she crossed
paths with. Mona, like many of us, had some struggles in life, it was not easy for her. She found
sobriety almost 18 years ago, with the help of her friends and sponsors in AA. She
affectionately called this group “My Peeps”. She found so much support from them
through the years.

Mona married Tim Korsmoe on June 11th, 2011, in Las Vegas Nevada with her parents
Jim and Mary Kujawa as their witnesses during the ceremony. June 11th also happened
to be her parents wedding anniversary, and they were married for 62 years until her
father passed in 2017

Mona loved her family deeply and the social time with her siblings, children,
grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Lots of her energy was focused on hobbies. These
included various types of crafting such as scrapbooking, painting, and etched glass.
She also had a “green thumb” and always mentioned the time she got to spend on her
mower. Another favorite hobby of hers was raising monarch butterflies. She’d name
each and every one before they flew away in the summer. Mona had an infectious laugh
and loved using it.

Mona will be greatly missed by her loving husband Tim Korsmoe and children, Shane
(Nicole) Heldstab, Crookston, MN and Nathan (Jennifer) Heldstab of Ocoee, FL, Matt
