Mona L. Sullivan – OBIT

Mona L. Sullivan (Ellingson) of Eagan, MN died peacefully on September 13, 2024 after a long battle with dementia. Mona was born on February 26, 1930 in Crookston, MN. She was the fourth of seven children born to Alton and Blanche. Mona grew up in a loving close-knit family with a strong Catholic faith. In her early years, she received instruction in piano and voice and as a teen, the Ellingson quartet sang at local venues in Crookston and on a weekly radio show in Fargo, ND. On June 24, 1950, she married Dennis “Spanky” Sullivan and were married almost 74 years. She spent the rest of her life being a homemaker and mother to 7 children. She was a great cook/baker and took pride in her homes with a keen eye for decorating. When her children were grown, they spent many years living in Arizona and traveled to many destinations including Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, Alaska, Medjugorje,  and several National Parks. Mona is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis (March 6, 2024); brothers, Elmer and Billy; and sisters, Rosita Barber and Bette Talbert. She is survived by 7 children, Joe of Edina, Janna (Bruce) of Savage; Richard of Edina; Mary of Hudson, WI; Patrice (Michael) of St. Paul, Paul (Candy) of South Lake Tahoe, CA, and  Kathleen of Las Vegas, NV; 9 grandchildren; Robb (Barb), Kristen (Eric), Andrew, Zach (Betsy), Ben (Cait), Molly, Mick, Megan and Peter; 7 great-grandchildren, Ella, Avery, Luke, Dylan, Jack, Arnie and George; sisters, Diane Hendrickson and Claire Derosier;  and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mona was known by her family as a warm, caring person with a great smile. She was deeply loved and expressed so much love in return. We will miss her dearly. Mass of Christian Burial 10AM Monday, September 30 at the CHURCH OF ST. JOHN NEUMANN, 4030 Pilot Knob Rd. @ Deerwood Drive in Eagan with a visitation 1 hr. prior to the Mass. Private interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
