National Weather Service issues a Cold Weather Advisory and Extreme Cold Warning through Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory starting at 9:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, through 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. A 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, an Extreme Cold Warning is in effect through Noon on Tuesday, January 21.

  • WHAT…For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 38 below is expected.
    For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 50 below expected.
  • WHEN…For the Cold Weather Advisory, from 9 PM this evening to 6 PM CST Saturday.
    For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 6 PM Saturday to noon CST Tuesday.
  • IMPACTS…The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 50 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
  • PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
    Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution if you must drive. Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.
