The National Weather Service in Grand Forks, North Dakota is predicting significant snowfall Friday night into Saturday morning for Crookston and parts of northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.
The possibility of measurable snow includes the cities of Crookston, East Grand Forks, Hallock, Karlstad, Lancaster, Warren, Stephen, and Argyle. North Dakota cities include Cando, Langdon, Cavalier, Walhalla, Drayton, Pembina, Neche, St. Thomas, Fort Totten, Maddock, Leeds, Minnewaukan, Devils Lake, Grafton, Park River, New Rockford, Lakota, Mcville, Aneta, Tolna, Grand Forks, Cooperstown, Finley, Hope, Mayville, Hillsboro, Hatton, Portland, Edinburg, Adams, and Lankin.
A heavy snow band may form late tonight over north-central North Dakota and track over parts of northeast North Dakota and possibly into far northwest Minnesota. This has the potential to impact the Highway 2 corridor and Interstate 29 from Grand Forks north to the International Border. Where this tracks snow rates up to 1 inch per hour will be possible. Increasing winds may combine with these heavy snow rates to reduce visibilities below one mile. Snow totals will be highly variable based on the timing of the rain to snow change over, and this track of the heavy precipitation band.
Most locations should only receive a dusting to 1 inch of slushy snow accumulation. Where this banding lingers, 3 inches or more snow may occur. Confidence isn`t high on the exact placement of the higher totals or potential travel impacts, but anyone planning travel tonight and Saturday morning should prepare for potential winter travel conditions.
