NEW CITY OF FERTILE CAMPGROUND NEARING COMPLETION

The City of Fertile is completing work on a new 10 site RV campground adjacent to the Polk County Fairgrounds. Fertile City Administrator Lisa Liden said planning began last year, and the work to transform the property into a campground began in May. “Planning on this actually started last year,” said Liden. “We used to have a skating rink in that location and once that was moved, we were trying to figure out what to do with that property. We get just enough inquiries of people looking for RV campsites in Fertile and didn’t really have a lot to offer in that regard. So, we started planning last year and work began in the middle or end of May.”

Liden said she believes they are making good progress on the full-service campground. “They’ve made pretty good progress,” said Liden. “The campground will be full service with water, sewer, and electric. The water and sewer are in right now, and I believe, all the work on the pads. We’re waiting for the electric to come in and then we have all the finish work that pretties it up with the grass and some trees in the future. So, it will be a pretty nice spot.”

The city will manage the 10 site campground, which Liden expects to open later in July. “10 spots managed by the city, and it was designed so that all the spots are drive-through,” said Liden. “So, you don’t have to back into anything. That will also be nice. I’m guessing it will probably be done sometime this summer. It may not be fully done with grass seeded and growing. But I think we’ll be able to start offering some limited camping there mid-to-late July, depending on need.”

The campground will be managed by the City of Fertile and information about reserving sites will be available at www.cityoffertile.org or by calling the city office at 218-945-3136.
