HUGO’S FAMILY MARKETPLACE IN CROOKSTON RAISES FUNDS FOR LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS

Hugo’s Family Marketplace recently ran several campaigns at their cash registers to raise funds for local organizations. Called scan campaigns, customers donate at the till during the checkout. Whether it’s $1 or $5, it all helps the organizations that serve the Crookston population.

Store Manager Nick Nelson said customers help raise a good chunk of money for organizations in the community the past few months. “We ask the customers if they’d like to donate a certain amount, whether it’s $1, $3, or $5,” said Nelson. “We started with Salvation Army, the Care and Share, Crookston School District – Music and Arts, and the RiverView Health Foundation. The customers and Hugo’s donated a little over $3,500 to these organizations in town. It was a great event, and we have great customers that shop here. We really appreciate it.”

$1,242 was raised for the Crookston School District – Music and Arts, $1,060 for the Polk County Salvation Army, $810 for the Care and Share, and another $471 for the RiverView Health Foundation.

Nelson was also recently promoted to the store manager for the Crookston Hugo’s. Nelson said the opportunity came this fall when former manager Bob O’Halloran had an opportunity to take over a store in Grand Forks where he lives. “Back in September, I took over as store director,” said Nelson. “Bob O’Halloran was the manager here. He had the opportunity to go back to a Grand Forks store. He is from Grand Forks, so it made more sense for him to be there local. He misses the store. We miss him too. It’s been an interesting five months with all the things going on, but I’m really enjoying the position. We’ll continue to grow and serve you guys as our customers.”

Nelson is a native of Crookston and a graduate of the University of Minnesota Crookston. He has extensive experience working with Hugo’s since 2006.
