The Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 3:44 pm Wednesday, January 29 to J.R Simplot Company located at 3630 Gateway Dr. Fire crews arrived on scene and were directed to an area where a fire was smoldering inside a freezer wall adjacent to a packaging area. Crews removed coverings from the wall and extinguished the fire. The fire did not spread beyond the wall.
Fire investigators are on scene at this time conducting the investigation and a damage estimate is not available at this time. There were no injuries to J.R Simplot employees or fire department personnel. The manufacturing plant remains open and operational.
The fire department responded with five engines, one ladder truck, one command vehicle staffed with nineteen personnel. The fire department was assisted by the Grand Forks Police Department and Altru Ambulance.
