The East Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched to the 400 block of 5th Avenue NE at around 5:31 a.m. on Tuesday for a garage on fire.
Upon arrival, fire units found a fully involved detached garage with the roof already collapsed. It was confirmed that nobody was inside the home. First arriving units pulled a pre-connected fire hose for fire attack. A second pre-connected hose was pulled for exposure protection. The fire extended into the attic, and the home sustained moderate fire damage in the Northwest corner. The fire was contained within 15 minutes of arrival and extinguished within 45 minutes. The properties to the north and south of the main fire building sustained minor heat damage to the siding. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The East Grand Forks Fire Department responded with 7 apparatus and 24 personnel. Assisting agencies were the East Grand Forks Police Department, East Grand Forks Water and Light, and Altru Ambulance.
