EMMA BOROWICZ ADVANCES TO THE FINALS IN THE 300 HURDLES AT STATE TRACK AND FIELD MEET

Emma Borowicz advanced to the Finals in the 300-meter hurdles after a strong showing in the prelims at the Class A State Track and Field Meet hosted at Hamline University in St. Paul. Noah Kiel wrapped up his sophomore season as a sprinter for the Pirates after taking 11th place in the 100 meters and 14th place in the 200 meters.

EMMA BOROWICZ –
Emma Borowicz ran the 300-meter hurdles in 46.70 seconds for a new personal best. Borowicz time was fifth fastest in heat one but proved to be the seventh fastest overall time earning her a spot in the finals Saturday at 6:12 p.m. “She had her personal best today, and that’s really what we ask for,” explained Crookston head coach Amy Boll. “She’ll be in seventh going into (the finals), so she did a fantastic job. Her race looked really good. I know that when she came over the last hurdles, she hit the last one and stuttered a little bit. I know she’s going to do very well tomorrow. I’m so excited to watch her. She’s a strong athlete. She’s mentally and physically strong. She’s mentally driven, and she’s calm. She puts everything out there.”  Emma Borowicz was equally pleased with her performance in the prelims. “Everything started really good,” noted Borowicz. “My hurdles were definitely a lot smoother than they have been in the last few races I’ve run. I just kind of nicked it in the end in the last 10 meters and was trying to catch my step, otherwise, I ran it exactly as I wanted to. Having people to push me there helped a lot. I still have more that I can do and I’m hoping that I can do it all tomorrow.”

NOAH KIEL – 
Noah Kiel ran the 100 meters in 11.59 seconds and finished 11th place in the prelims.  He was four-hundredths of a second from qualifying for the finals. In Kiel’s second race of the day, the sophomore ran the 200 meters in 23.78 seconds for a fourteenth place finish in the state concluding his sophomore season. “I don’t think he did get the performance that he wanted,” said Crookston head coach Wayne Folkers. “Nor did I, but just being down here for the state meet, that’s experience (he can use) for the next two years coming up. He’s only a sophomore, and for boys, you kind of look through the program and you have juniors and seniors really leading the pack. For him to get down here as a sophomore that’s a good accomplishment and he can look forward to being down here again next year and the year after.” While Kiel was disappointed, he knows he will have two more years to earn a trip back to the state meet. “It’s a good experience to see everybody in the state who runs fast, and it was fun. There’s a lot of kids outside of our section that were pretty quick, and you’ve got to compete with them over your section.”
