NORTH STAR 4H CLUB HOSTING “HEAD, HANDS, & TOES” WINTER GEAR DRIVE

North Star 4-H Club is hosting their second annual “Head, Hands, & Toes” Winter Gear Drive throughout January:

  • Head – wearing a warm hat during winter is one way to help keep the warm blood pumping through the body.
  • Hands – hands and fingers are used for so many important tasks. Good quality mittens or gloves will help trap the warmth while keeping hands dry.
  • Toes – cold toes can make you miserable. Wool or synthetic fiber socks are best for keeping toes dry and warm.

North Star 4-H Club challenges you to help keep kids warm this winter and make a difference in our local community.   Donations of winter gear including hats, mittens, and socks can be dropped off at Cathedral Church, Our Saviors Church, Crookston Library, and Northwest Regional Extension Office at UMC through January 31.

In 2021, the North Star 4-H Club applied for and received a “Helping Hands” grant through the University of Minnesota Extension and Minnesota 4-H.  Club members voted to use part of the funds to purchase fleece and make hats for their Winter Gear Drive.  Participating in the project has promoted community pride, developed team working skills, and most importantly will help others.  So far, members and their families have made 100+ no-sew fleece hats!  They plan to give them to Polk County Public Health, Care and Share, and local schools to distribute to youth in need of warm winter gear.

4-H is an out-of-school, hands-on learning program for anyone in kindergarten through one year past high school. Youth choose a project that is interesting to them and explore it with peers and caring adults. 4-H clubs are groups of youth who want to learn together and meet in every part of Minnesota.  If you would like to learn more about 4-H, visit: extension.umn.edu/4-h/about-4-h
