The National Weather Service says Crookston and portions of northwest and west central Minnesota and southeast North Dakota are in a Winter Storm Watch effective Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. The watch includes the following cities – Crookston, East Grand Forks, Ada, Twin Valley, Halstad, Moorhead, Breckenridge in Minnesota and the following cities in North Dakota – Grand Forks, Mayville, Hillsboro, Fargo, and Wahpeton.
Blizzard conditions are possible with winds gusting as high as 40 mph Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.
Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
A Winter Storm Watch for blizzard conditions means there is a potential for falling and/or blowing snow with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities. This can lead to whiteout conditions and make travel very dangerous.
