NWROC IN CROOKSTON TO HOST FIRST ANNUAL YOUTH CAMP

The Crookston NWROC (Northwest Outreach Center) will host its first annual Bell Museum STEM One-Day Camp. The Youth Camp is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is intended for grades 6-9. Your child/children can be dropped off at our Maintenance/Farm Operations building before 10:00 a.m. and picked up at 4:00 p.m.

Those who attend the camp will be going to the field to learn about the crops. NWROC’s faculty will present their research and do in-field activities with wheat, sugar beets, potatoes, and possibly soybeans, and activity with soil. Lunch will be provided. The afternoon will be filled with fun activities, and the kids will create their own terrarium to take home.

The NWROC is part of the College of Food Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences, University of Minnesota in the St. Paul Campus. The Crookston location is on the east side of UMC’s campus, and the mission at the Research Center is to conduct advanced research on a variety of crops, such as wheat, soybeans, sugar beets, and many more and disseminate the information through extension, outreach, and teaching. NWROC also focuses on pest management and water & nutrient management of the soil.
