NWROC SET TO HOLD CROPS AND SOILS DAY ON WEDNESDAY

The University of Minnesota Northwest Research and Outreach Center will hold its annual Crops and Soils Day this Wednesday, July 17, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“Crops and Soils Day is an opportunity for us and the research center to highlight the important research we do at the Northwest Research and Outreach Center,” said Maureen Aubol, the Director of Operations at the Northwest Regional & Outreach Center. “We will talk about the relevance of the farming issues today in Northwest Minnesota. This coincides also with our research mission to provide timely, unbiased, and valuable information to the agriculture community in the Red River Valley.”

The event will be held at NWROC’s Maintenance/Farm Operations Building, located just south of Polk County Hwy 71 near the University of Minnesota Crookston Campus. The schedule is below.

Registration for small grain tours is at 7:30 a.m., with another being at 8:00 a.m. There will be several guest speakers after these grain tours as well. After this, two buses will head out to small plot research fields. People can get on one bus after the first tour, return for a coffee break at the shop, and then take the other bus to see the different presentations. Lunch will be served at approximately 11:45 a.m. for all guests. The afternoon sugar beet tours will begin at 12:45 p.m., with two buses heading out simultaneously to the north farm. The whole day should wrap around 2:30 p.m.

Lindsay Pease, Ashok Chanda, Ian MacRae, and Jochum Wiersma will be presenting throughout the day. As well as faculty from the University of Minnesota’s Saint Paul campus, and representation from North Dakota State University.
