OBIT – Ann M. Tucker

Ann M. Tucker, 79, Fertile, MN, died peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, surrounded by her family.

Ann Tucker was born to Paul & Ruby Rasmussen in Fertile, MN. She lived on a farm with her 6 brothers and sisters.

She attended Fertile-Beltrami school until 1961. In that year she married Howard Abrahamson from Crookston. They had 3 boys and continued to live around the Fertile area. Ann worked various places and was at St. Francis Hospital for 3 years as a nurse’s aide. She went to school at Grand Forks Hair Academy, and following this, she worked for Sara Lucken and Grace Nephew at the Magic Mirror. She worked alongside Debby Johnson (Nixon) and various others including Kari Wright (Lehman). Ann bought the Magic Mirror and continued to do hair. She enjoyed every minute with her customers and friends and tried to please each of them. In 1989 she closed her shop and challenged herself to enter the LPN program at UMC and East Grand Forks Tech., graduating in 1993.

In 1987 she and Howard divorced after 27 years, and in 1992 she married Dr. Hayes Tucker (Wink) from California. Wink didn’t want her to work as a nurse as travel was involved. She started work for JC Penny in Newark where they lived. She became a floor supervisor, and a merchandise assistant in the Baby Department, Jewelry Department, and Childrens Departments. She was surprised by the work ethic out there compared to MN.

She and Wink sold the house in Newark and moved to Wink’s mountain home in Truckee, California. Wink and Ann enjoyed fishing on Lake Tahoe many mornings. Soon they wanted to be near his son Kyle and Becky and family back in MN. They found their dream home on Maple Lake and lived there until Wink’s health declined, sadly Wink passed away in 2015. Ann sold their home and moved to a duplex in Fertile. She started working part-time at Fair Meadow Nursing home in the dietary department. She enjoyed her boss and coworkers until the day she had to retire because of health issues.

Ann enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and going to the casinos. Most of all, Ann enjoyed being with her grandchildren and family. Ann lived her life by enjoying every minute God gave her.

Left to mourn her memory are sons, Lee (Cindy) Abrahamson, Tim (Tracy) Abrahamson, and Kyle (Becky) Tucker; 6 grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) Hoekstra, Dan (Beth) Abrahamson, Tyler (Mickala) Abrahamson, Ashley (Jacob) Neufeld, Austin Tucker, and Brianna Abrahamson (Steven); 3 great-grandchildren, Sadie Ann Hoekstra, and Aiden Mark and Adlee Ray Abrahamson; Mark’s wife, Vieng Abrahamson; sisters, Joann (Alden) Narum, and Diane (Lyle) Fuchs; brother, Vernon Rasmussen; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Rasmussen, and Dione Rasmussen; many nieces and nephews and their families; friends close to Ann, Pat Ranz, Claudia Sorvig, and Pat Todahl; and her pets, Zoe and Elizabeth.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Ruby; son, Mark; husband, Wink; and brothers, Verle, Jim, and Dean Rasmussen.
