Obit – Herman Joseph Prudhomme

Herman Joseph Prudhomme, 95, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully, on Friday, October 14, 2022, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN.

Herman was born on May 20, 1927, to Phillip and Regina (Sauve) Prudhomme in rural Crookston. He attended Country School District 256 through the 8th grade and a member of Church of Christ in Crookston, MN.

In 1945, Herman joined the US Army and proudly served his country in the 345th Artillery Battalion, Herman was certified as a Sharpshooter at Camp Hood, TX.  In 1946, Herman returned home to Crookston and attended the Northwest School of Agriculture.  On June 23, 1948, Herman was united in marriage to Margaret Elma Johnson.  They made their home in rural Kertsonville Township, Crookston, MN where they raised seven children, whom he was very proud of.  Herman farmed small grains, hay, sheep, and cattle.  Herman volunteered his time to assist his children who were members of the Crookston Four Corners 4-H club, in showing sheep and cattle during the 4-H days down town Crookston his pride and joy was his livestock herd.  In Herman’s retirement years he helped his son Bob, mowing and gardening at Bob’s Lawn Care in Crookston.  Herman also was the Kertsonville Township Assessor and Officer.  Sadly, Margaret passed on November 24, 2016.  Herman kept busy with his farming, gardening, mowing lawn, and socializing, with family friends and neighbors, he wanted everyone to know the need to accept Christ as their “personal Savior”.  He really enjoyed telling stories of the “good old days” to the nurses and staff at Fair Meadow Nursing Home.

Herman is survived by his children: James (Gail) Prudhomme of Fargo, ND, Aleta (Ken) Brule of Cloquet, MN, Bonnie (James) Dahl of Bemidji, MN, Bob (Geri Lynn) Prudhomme of Crookston, MN, and Jeff (Diane) Prudhomme of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Joel, Jodi, Laura, Rachel, Gina, Londa, Peggy Anne, Randy, Kurt, and Teddi; great-grandchildren: Brandon, Rian and Ariana (twins), Anthony, Savannah, Bryce, Drew, Max, Grace, Jimmy, Pamela and Megan (twins), Kelsea, Lennon, Odin, and Marie, Zackary and Emily; brother-in-law, Floyd Arnold and sister-in-law, Lois Kicker.

Herman is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Prudhomme; daughter, Eileen Prudhomme; son, Jerry Prudhomme; parents, Phillip and Regina Prudhomme; Siblings, Donald and (Helen) Prudhomme, Ted and (Doreen) Prudhomme; O’Della Arnold; and in-law’s; Emil and Ada Johnson, Jean (Ray) Hoppe, his wife Margaret’s twin sister Barbara (George) McGrane, and Marvin (Patricia) Johnson, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Herman Joseph Prudhomme will be held at 2:00 pm., Friday, October 21, 2022 at the Church of Christ, 321 5th Avenue South, in Crookston, MN. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Thursday, October 20, 5:00-7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., and visitation also at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment with Military Honors will be at Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston, MN.
