ONE LEFT DEAD AFTER GUNSHOT WOUND IN GRAND FORKS

On Saturday, April 1, 2023, at approximately 8:57 p.m., The Grand Forks Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at 1110 Stanford Rd. Upon arrival, officers located a male subject on the 1st floor hallway with a gunshot wound. First responders attempted life-saving measures on the male, who was later pronounced deceased at Altru.

Two firearms were recovered from the scene and all involved parties were identified.  This appears to be an isolated incident with no additional danger to the public.  The deceased male’s identity is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.  The investigation remains ongoing.  No arrests have been made at this time.

The Grand Forks Police Department was assisted by the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office, the University of North Dakota Police Department, Altru paramedics, and personnel from the Grand Forks Fire Department.

**UPDATE**  April 3rd, 2023  10:00am

The deceased in this incident, identified as 53-year-old Dwight Caprice Cross of Grand Forks, ND, confronted a male subject, identified as 24-year-old Javon Kaleel Lowery of Grand Forks, ND, and a brief argument took place.  Cross then brandished what appeared to be a firearm towards Lowery causing Lowery to use his own firearm hitting Cross in the chest.  The firearm used by Cross was later determined by officers on scene to be a pellet style rifle.

This is an ongoing investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.  Anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the incident, is encouraged to contact the Grand Forks Police Department by one of the following methods:
