Orpha Marvig – Obit

Orpha T. Marvig, 91, Fertile, MN, died Sunday, September 29, 2019, at Benedictine Care Community, Ada, MN.

Orpha Teresa Severinson was born May 7, 1928 to Torstein and Olga (Mickelson) Severinson on her grandparents farm in rural Hitterdal, MN.  While attending high school in Hawley, MN, she lived with and worked for the local dentist.  She graduated from Hawley High School.

On June 12, 1948, Orpha was united in marriage to John Marvig at Lake Park, MN. They lived on a farm near Hawley until 1961, when they moved to rural Gary, MN.  They raised their children there and in 1986, they moved to Fertile.

Orpha was well known for being a wonderful cook and baker.  She worked at the Fertile Hotel for several years and in the kitchen at Fair Meadow Nursing Home for 20 years, retiring at age 79.  She also did lots of canning and was a good seamstress.  She made wedding dresses for three of her daughters.

She is survived by one son, Rick (Rita) Chaska, MN; four daughters: Marilee (Milo) Reck, Waseca, MN; Debbie Hilar, Fargo, ND; Brenda (Craig) Langved, Fertile; Michelle (Danny) Qualley, Fertile; a daughter-in-law: Cheryl Marvig, Moorhead, MN; 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren, 1 step-great-great grandchild,  and one brother, Sigurd Severinson, Hawley, MN.

Orpha was preceded in death by her husband, John; sons: Bradley and Jerry; grandson: Casey Fuglseth and twin infant granddaughters.

Funeral: Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 1:00pm, at Sundal Lutheran Church, rural Fertile, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.

Burial: Sundal Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fertile, MN.
