Parks & Rec Director Jake Solberg’s last day with the City of Crookston is July 11, next stop, UND

On Monday night during the Department Reports section of the City Council Meeting, City Administrator Jeff Shoobridge announced that Jake Solberg, the Director of Parks & Recreation for the City of Crookston, had resigned his position. KROX stopped out at Solberg’s office in the Crookston Sports Center this week to speak with Solberg about what’s next.

“I will be going to work at UND. I took a Rec position over there,” says Solberg. “I will be working in the Wellness Center and running recreation programs, activities, and things at the UND campus.” Solberg’s last day with the City of Crookston is Friday, July 11.
Solberg is proud of what he accomplished in his three years with the City of Crookston. “The first project that we did was the campground. That was a long process, but myself, along with Scott, Corky, and everyone involved, got the project done,” says Solberg. “New bathhouse, the $1.4 million project was done at the campground. Looking back, that was a big accomplishment.”

Also mentioned was work done on diamonds five and six with fences and scoreboard upgrades, as well as the work finishing up at the Crookston Sports Center recently. “This year, we have done a lot of work out at the Crookston Sports Center with the exterior painting and the caulking,” says Solberg. “And then the new flooring around the walking tracks. Those are some accomplishments that I am proud of.”

Solberg says he will miss certain aspects of his job with the city quite a bit, but that his family is staying put and he will be around. “The people that I work with will be a big thing. We are a pretty tight group in our department,” says Solberg. “Andrea, Scott, all of our full-timers who work for us. So, that is going to be a tough one to swallow. I will be in Crookston, so the biggest thing that I will miss in my position is just the people that I work with. Not only my department, but also Jeff, all the ladies at City Hall, and things like that.  They are all good people, they truly are. Everyone plays a part in our city so, they will be missed.  I will make sure to stop by and say Hi from time to time.”

Solberg’s last day with the City again is Friday, July 11. The next City Council meeting is Monday, July 21, and we expect there will be an announcement at that meeting on the subject of Solberg’s replacement.
