The Columbus Blue Jackets trimmed their training camp roster by 24 players, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
The Blue Jackets assigned the following players to the Cleveland Monsters, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate: F Vitaly Abramov, D Brady Austin, F Paul Bittner, D Garret Cockerill, D Ryan
Collins, F Dan DeSalvo, F Maxime Fortier, F Brett Gallant, F Nikita Korostelev, F Miles Koules, F Ryan MacInnis, F Justin Scott, F Kole Sherwood, D Blake Siebenaler, D Doyle Somerby, G Brad Thiessen, F Calvin Thurkauf, F Trent Vogelhuber and D Justin Wade.
The club also placed the following players on waivers for the purposes of assigning them to Cleveland: D Tommy Cross, F Zac Dalpe, F Nathan Gerbe and D Dillon Simpson. Goaltender Joseph Raaymakers was released from his tryout contract and returned to the Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights.
Bittner played in one exhibition game in a 3-0 loss to St. Louis on Friday. Paul played 14 minutes with three shots on goal, two hits, one block and two penalty minutes. He played 90 seconds on the power play and 37 seconds while short handed. Paul and the Cleveland Monsters will start the season on October 5 and 6 when they host Rockford.
