The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Basketball team’s Halle Winjum and Abby Borowicz combined for 38 points to lead their team to a 59-45 victory over the Ada-Borup/West Cougars in a game played in Crookston.
FIRST HALF –
Ada-Borup/West had a great start to the game and jumped out to a 9-2 lead. Crookston’s offense finally settled in with an 8-2 run behind Isabelle Smith’s back-to-back three-pointers for a 10-9 lead. The Pirate defense was the difference-maker in the rest of the first half. Crookston would continue to build on the lead the rest of the half and took a 29-19 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF –
The Pirates would start the second half with back-to-back three-pointers and another quick basket for an 8-0 run to start the half for a 37-19 lead. Ada-Borup-West chipped away at the Pirate lead, but Halle Winjum and Abby Borowicz would heat up the rest of the way as they combined for 38 points and the Pirates cruised to a 59-45 victory.
The Pirates improve to 9-6 and will host East Grand Forks on Thursday for Pirate Sister Night. Ada-Borup/West drops to 4-11 and will play Mahnomen-Waubun on Thursday.
