PIRATE GIRLS BASKETBALL FALLS TO NORMAN COUNTY EAST/ULEN-HITTERDAL

The Crookston Pirates Girls Basketball team tried a second-half rally but fell to the Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal Titans 61-51. 

FIRST HALF-
In the first half, Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal got off to a great start as they began the game on a 9-0 run. Crookston answered with Brooklyn Waldal was able to get a lay-up for the Pirates, and Grace Boll hit a three to cut the Titans lead down to 9-5. The Titans used another 9-0 run to make it 18-5 before Naomi Johnson got a basket underneath for the Pirates. The Titans lead went up to 33-8 before Johnson added another bucket in the lane for Crookston. Later in the half, Chloe Boll attacked the basket and got a nifty left-hand layup to fall for the Pirates to cut into the Titans lead. Chloe Boll added two free throws right before the end of the half to make it 37-16 with the Titans leading. 

SECOND HALF –
In the second half, Chloe Boll attacked the basket again for the Pirates, this time getting her lay-up to fall while drawing contact. Boll hit the free throw to make it 38-19. Katelyn Christensen hit a three for Crookston to make it 38-22. The Titans responded with a couple of baskets before Christensen hit another three to make it 43-26 with the Titans still leading. Madilyn Bruggeman for Crookston hit a pair of baskets down low for the Pirates, but the Titans maintained a lead of 49-30. Later in the half, Bruggeman was able to get an offensive rebound and put it back in while drawing a foul. She hit the free throw as well to make it 56-33. Crookston attempted to mount a comeback as Chloe Boll and Waldal hit short-range shots for the Pirates, but ultimately, the Titans’ lead was too big as they would win 61-51. 

Crookston drops to 3-21 on the season and will take on Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Tuesday. Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal improves to 8-14 on the year and will take on Breckenridge on Tuesday.
