The Crookston Pirate Girls Swim team will be hard pressed to win a dual this year with eight girls on the team, but they put up a pretty good fight in a 58-36 loss to Fosston-Bagley and a 64-30 loss to Thief River Falls in a triangular at the Fosston pool.
Crookston won four events and had two-second place finishes with Madison Hoiland and Elizabeth Erdman recording two first-place finishes and one second place. Thea Oman won the 200 Freestyle and was also on the first place 200 Medley relay team. “Thea had an awesome 200 Freestyle time and is setting herself up for a great season in that event,” said Coach Marley Melbye. “Elizabeth swam the 100 fly for the first time in a couple of years and it was good to see her in that event.”
Fallon Johnson had a great 200 Freestyle race and finished third place with a time that was eight seconds better than her seed time. “We swam fairly well today,” said Coach Melbye. “Today was a big test for the relays after we lost some key people that graduated last year, so we tried a few things and learned a lot. All-in-all we did some great things and looked solid in areas and have some fine tuning and endurance to build, but it is a good start to the season and we can continue to improve from there.”
Crookston will go back to Fosston on Thursday, September 6 for another triangular with Fosston-Bagley and Perham.
