PIRATE GIRLS SWIMMING FINISHES THIRD IN CROOKSTON TRI-ANGULAR

The Crookston Pirate girls swimming team finished in third place in their own tri-angular with Fosston-Bagley winning the meet with 176 points while Thief River Falls took second place with 162 points at the Crookston Community Pool.

Fallon Johnson delivered the Pirates first strong performance of the night in the 200-meter freestyle taking third place with a time of 2:45.54. Madison Hoiland finished in second place in the 100-meter freestyle finishing in 1:09.18 The Pirates 200-meter freestyle relay team consisting of Claire Oman, Fallon Johnson, Mackenzie Aamoth, and Madison Hoiland combined for a time of 2:17.59 for a third-place finish. In the 100-meter backstroke, Mackenzie Aamoth swam in 1:28.96 for third place. Madison Hoiland provided Crookston’s lone first-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke swimming in 1:29.50 to take the top spot in the event. “For the first swim meet I thought the girls did really well,” explained Crookston head coach Marley Melbye. “We started out a little slow with a disqualification in the first race, so you never know how the girls are going to rally behind that, but they picked themselves up, and they swam very well. Madison Hoiland in her 100-breaststroke looked really strong. There was a lot of competition in that race, and she came out on top with a really good time. Another athlete that really stood out for it being the first meet of the year was Fallon Johnson. She swam the 200-freestyle and 500-freestyle and came out really well. She was looking solid, looking strong, and that’s tough to do in the first meet. So, I was really proud of her. Kenzie Aamoth also had a fantastic 100-backstroke. She looked as smooth and fluid in the water as I’ve ever seen her and so that’s exciting to see so early in the season. Overall, it’s a good starting place. We’ve got a lot of places where we can fine-tune and improve, but we’ve really got to hammer down some endurance and get in good shape, and as the season progresses we will do that. I’m pretty excited with how we swam today and looking forward to seeing how the season progresses.”

The Pirates return to the pool on Thursday, September 5 when Crookston travels to Fosston to compete in the Fosston-Bagley tri-angular at 5:30 P.M.
