The Crookston Pirate Wrestling team had six open weights, and that proved to be costly again as they lost to the Barnesville Trojans 48-30 in a Section 8AA matchup and a 66-9 loss to the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels in a triangular in Glyndon.
CROOKSTON VS BARNESVILLE –
Barnesville won the first two matches with a forfeit and a pin for a 12-0 lead.
Crookston picked up its first win at 121 pounds when Masyn Arguelles started the match with a takedown and won by a pin in a quick 42 seconds. Crookston was open at the next three matches and trailed 30-6.
Crookston’s Lucas Perala stopped the Barnesville winning streak with a win by pin in a lightning-quick 13 seconds. At 152 pounds, Crookston’s Jose Arriaga started his match with a takedown and two near-fall points for a 4-0 lead. He gave up a reversal and three near-fall points and trailed 5-4. Jose bounced back with an escape, a takedown, and three near-fall points for a 10-5 lead going into the second period. Jose got a takedown and won by a pin at 3:32 to bring the Pirates within a 30-18 deficit.
Barnesville won the 160-pound match by forfeit before Crookston’s Carter Coauette won by a forfeit. Barnesville won the next match by a pin and the 215 pound match by forfeit.
At heavyweight, Riley Helgeson started the match with a takedown and two near fall points and took a 4-0 lead into the second period. Riley started in the down position to begin the second period and scored an escape before picking up a win by pin at 3:20, but Barnesville won the dual 48-30.

DGF won the first nine matches to take a 54-0 lead. They won six by forfeit and three by pin in the first period.
Crookston finally got a win at 172 pounds when Carter Coauette picked up a win by a 5-0 decision. Carter scored a takedown in the first period, and that would be the scoring in the first two minutes. In the second period, Carter started in the down position and scored an escape before adding two more points on a takedown to take a 5-0 lead into the third period. There wasn’t any scoring in the third period, and Carter held on for a 5-0 victory, and Crookston trailed 54-3.
DGF won the next matches by pin and forfeit for a 66-3 lead going into the final match. Crookston’s Riley Helgeson won for the second time on the day at heavyweight. He scored the only points of the first period on a takedown. He started the second period with a takedown and won by a pin at 2:38, and DGF won the dual 66-9.
