POLK COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPROVE ZONING CHANGE REQUEST FROM OAK LAKE GOLF COURSE OWNER

The Polk County Board Commissioners met Tuesday morning at the Polk County Government Center.

Curtis Olson, now the Oak Lake golf course owner, requested a rezoning from an agricultural to a commercial zoning district. “The applicants’ request was to rezone a portion of a property which is the Oak Lake golf course,” said Planning and Zoning Administrator Jacob Snyder. “Highway 2 and 59 is where the golf course is. It was just a portion of the property along the right of way from Highway 2.”

Olson wants to sell outdoor patios and furniture, including fire pits and deer stands. “In those districts, we allow certain things. Sometimes above and beyond AG practices,” said Snyder. “One of those things we don’t allow in those districts is outdoor retailing. Things like outdoor products and storage must be in our commercial zoning district.” The board approved the conditional use permit and rezoning resolution for Curtis Olson.

The Environmental Services Department requested the purchase of an extended warranty on a Bomag Compactor. The compactor has reportedly experienced various electrical issues. “Everything is computerized, and it’s telling us which parts are going bad, but the problem is the wiring inside,” said Director of Environmental Services Jon Steiner. “There’s a connector loose, a wiring harness isn’t quite right, and these problems add up fast.”

Steiner explained to the board that other entities have purchased extended warranties for this machine, and companies highly recommend the purchase. The extended warranty for the Bomag Compactor is four years. The cost of the contract is $58,839. The board approved the purchase.

The consent agenda approved the bills and disbursements in the amount of $95,368.05.

The Polk County Board Commissioners will meet at the Polk County Government Center on Tuesday, August 22, at 8:00 am.
