POLK COUNTY COMMISSIONER DISTRICT 1 SPECIAL ELECTION ON MAY 9

There will be a special primary election for Polk County Commissioner District 1 on Tuesday, May 9, after the passing of Commissioner Jerry Jacobson.

There are five candidates that have filed for the opening (Michelle Cote, Marlow Jacobson, Kristy Jerde, Travis Johnson, and Paul Reese), forcing a special primary election.  The top two vote-getters will advance to the special election on August 8, 2023.  District 1 covers Wards 1 and 5 in Crookston, Fertile, Beltrami, and Mentor.  It includes all of the following townships – Fairfax, Kertsonville, Tilden, Grove Park, Russia, Onstad, Godfrey, Woodside, Reis, Liberty, Garfield, and Garden Township.

There will be one polling place in the City of Crookston for those that live in Wards 1 and 5. “This change is normally Ward 1, who would vote at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, but due to the fact that there was another event going on for them that day, we had to change the polling place,” said Crookston City Clerk Ashley Rystad. “They (Ward 1 residents) will be voting at First Presbyterian Church on May 9 and August 8, 2023, for the special election.”

Only City of Crookston residents in Wards 1 and 5 will be voting for the District 1 special election. “Ward 5 already votes at First Presbyterian Church normally, so that is why we want to let the registered voters know that due to the usual voting location not being available, we are letting you know that Wards 1 and 5 will be voting at the First Presbyterian Church.”

If you are a resident of Ward 1 or 5 and have any questions about the special election voting, call Crookston City Hall at 218-281-1232 and ask for Ashley Rystad.
