Polk County Commissioners Get Library Update

The Polk County Commissioners met Tuesday in their chambers at the Polk County Government Center.  Liz Lynch, executive director for the Lake Agassiz Regional Library, told the commissioners that library usage has increased around the region. “Books are expensive and with the library providing e-books and audiobooks people are taking advantage,” said Lynch. “We’ve introduced a new printing service as well, while someone can print from their mobile device and pick up the materials from the library.” Lynch also added that the remodeling in Crookston is gorgeous and gives the building a new feel while encouraging the commissioners to stop by for a look.
Two final plots were brought before the commissioners for approval by Jacob Snyder, director for planning and zoning.  The first plat was Paradise Point Estates in Woodside Township on Union Lake.  The second plat also sits on Union Lake, the Simon Second Edition covers property in both Woodside and Garden Townships.  Both plats were approved.
Yesterday, we shared a press release from Polk County Public Health seeking applicants for a youth advisory board and director of public health, Sarah Reese, updated the commissioners on that initiative.  “We are excited to start a new adventure so young people from local schools can share their voice as we understand the trends of today,” said Reese. “We’re looking for students to apply at our office, online or by calling in.”
The commissioners approved certifications of performance on several projects including gravel road stabilization on a contract for $603,184; for a crack fill contract totaling $134,650 and four overlay projects totaling $2,298,713.65.
