The Polk County Commissioners met on Tuesday at the Polk County Government Center.
POLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE MONTHLY STATISTICS
The meeting kicked off with the commissioners being presented with the monthly statistics from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The statistics for December cases included 108 traffic stops, 147 civil process incidents, 22 fraudulent welfare checks, 11 damage to property, and eight domestic assault incidents.
Polk County Sheriff James Tadman sought approval to receive grant funding from the 2024 State of Minnesota Federal Boating Safety Supplemental Equipment Grant contract. “We have an older Sonar unit that we would like to replace,” said Tadman, “We put that down for our funding this year; we’ve put out our funding needs for jetskis before and just equipment that is getting older. This year, our total funding received is $2,893, which will go toward the Humming Bird Helix GPS scan Sonar.” The board approved that the Sheriff’s Office receive these funds.”
POLK COUNTY HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT
Polk County Highway Engineer Richard Sanders asked for approval to fill two vacant positions in the Highway Department, which the board approved.
The next item brought to the board was regarding a raise grant application for studies to be done to the Merrifield Bridge between Polk County and Grand Forks County. “SRF, the consultant firm that the group picked to review the bridges between Polk and Grand Forks,” said Sanders. “East Grand Forks and Grand Forks is willing to make a grant application for a study to determine whether or not it’s needed and to help pay for them to get it up and constructed.”
Applying for the grant will cost East Grand Forks approximately $28,000. Polk County’s portion in the application is for $7,100. The commissioners approved to pay $7,100 to mitigate the application cost.
PLANNING AND ZONING
Planning and Zoning Administrator Jacob Snyder brought one item to the board regarding the Syverson family finalizing their private cemetery plat in section 18 Hillriver Township. “We ended up taking 3.5 acres of tracks from an existing farm field,” said Snyder. “We also took some wood and vegetation in the middle of it to conduct a family cemetery. This will be a private cemetery. The Syverson family is the applicant, and today was the final approval of the final cemetery on that track land.” The commissioners approved the final plat.
The consent agenda included the approval of minutes from the January 2 commissioners meeting. It also included the approval of bills and disbursements in the amount of $65,443.03. The next Polk County Board meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 23, at the Polk County Government Center.
