The Polk County Sheriff’s Office would like businesses to be aware of fake Minnesota IDs being used in and around Polk County.
At first inspection, in normal light, the IDs appear to be legal and contain all the security features of a legitimate ID card. From what the Polk County Sheriff’s Office has observed, under a black light, the holograms on the front of the fake IDs glow much brighter and transmit through the reverse side of the ID card. On legal ID cards, the holograms are not as bright and don’t transmit through the backside.
If anyone comes across a fake ID or an ID they believe to be phony, contact local law enforcement.
