The Polk County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone enjoying sports time on the ice to be extremely careful. Ice depths can fluctuate within a short distance. With the recent warm weather and more to come, ice depths can deteriorate quickly. There have been numerous motor vehicles observed out on the ice on waters in Polk County. We urge all, to please check the ice depths before driving on the ice. Ice Depths can be checked quickly with an auger and tape measure. “With the schools going to be on break soon, we know many will venture onto the ice and we want everyone to do it safely,” said the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in a press release to the media.
