POLK COUNTY SOYBEAN-CORN GROWERS DONATE TO FISHER FFA

The Polk County Soybean-Corn Growers recently donated $1,000 to the FFA Chapter at Fisher High School. The funds given will go towards their greenhouse project. The students currently have the greenhouse but need funding to lay concrete and footings. Volunteers are also needed to help finish the project.

“A few years ago, our school was looking to expand the agricultural program and career academies,” says Kristen Schwarz, FFA instructor for Fisher High School. “Our focus has been to give students the experience of working in a greenhouse setting and to learn what agriculture is all about.  One of our goals is to grow items for our school cafeteria. We will be focusing on growing peas, carrots and other different items for our salad bar at school.”

We wanted to do something for the FFA students in our county,” said Kevin Krueger, chair of the Polk County Soybean-Corn Growers Association. Supporting a group like FFA is important to ensure that we have another generation interested in a broad range of agricultural career pathways. Being able to help develop these students’ potential and help them discover their talent through hands-on experiences is something our county is happy to be a part of.”

The FFA Organization is a youth leadership organization that makes a positive difference in the lives of young people by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agriculture education.
