Crookston Parks & Recreation held a board meeting on Monday, October 21, at 4:45 p.m. in City Hall.
After approving the August 19 meeting minutes, the board moved to the regular agenda.
Fall/Winter Registrations
Overall numbers looked good for the current fall/winter registration, but they could be better, says Jake Solberg, Director of Parks & Recreation. “They are not looking horrible; we are down a couple in figure skating, and we are up a little in hockey,” says Solberg. “We’ve been up in some adult volleyball, and we are up in our volleyball this year, 3rd-6th. All and all Solberg says the numbers are up a little bit this year from last year.
Pool Update
The pool has been open Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. This has been made possible by a lot of volunteers, says Solberg. “We have a fire watchman; they are all volunteers, and we can legally open up doing that,” says Solberg. “I met with Fire Chief Heldstab, we went over some things, some guidelines and things like that and what to do, and we are following them, and it’s going pretty smoothly right now.”
The pool is still waiting on a part for its fire system, and Solberg says if everything goes as the company says, they should have it by November 18. “Like I said, it all depends on if the parts come in and get shipped on time and things like that.”
The board talked a little about how the ice was coming along at the Sports Center. The update was that the second sheet is going in right now, and the third will wait a bit in hopes that the outdoor temps go down. The board also touched on the success of Central Park since it opened back up to campers. Solberg mentioned that the park made around $19,000 this year. This number should go up substantially as they plan to open Memorial Day to Labor Day next year.
The next Crookston Parks & Recreation meeting is set for Monday, November 18, at 4:45 p.m.
