PUBLIC MEETING ABOUT NATURAL GAS SERVICE COMING TO FISHER WILL BE HELD THURSDAY EVENING

Community Co-ops of Lake Park have announced they will be offering the residents of Fisher the opportunity to hook up to natural gas.  The public meeting will be held in the Fisher School gymnasium on Thursday, January 30 at 6:30 p.m.  “The purpose of the meeting is so the community in Fisher can learn about who we are as Community Co-ops and also learn about the natural gas project.  We’re bringing natural gas into town,” said Jake Swiers from Community Co-ops Mahnomen office. “They can ask questions, see what we’re about, and see if it makes sense for them to sign up and take advantage of it.”

Community Co-op will run natural gas mains into the City of Fisher with the hope to have it running this summer. “We will start the project, putting the mains in the ground, as soon as the frost is out this spring,” said Swiers. “Everything has been approved by the city council and permitting has been done.  After the mains are done, we’ll start running services to people’s homes.  It’s always something of a crapshoot, but we’re hoping by around July 1st to start running services to the homes.  If you sign up now or this summer, you will have access to natural gas for heating this fall.”

Community Co-ops has a natural gas facility nine miles from Fisher, which Swiers said prompted the company to see if there was interest in Fisher. “We have our facility within nine miles of Fisher,” said Swiers. “I was looking at it and was like why don’t we try for that.  We reached out to some of the key players in Fisher like the school to see if they were interested, and they were.   So, then we visited with the city council and they were interested in having us come in.”

The community informational meeting will go over the Community Co-op business, an explanation of the project, and the benefits of natural gas.  Swiers said the two things most people bring up after making the change is the convenience and savings associated with natural gas. “The biggest thing we hear from our customers is the convenience of natural gas,” said Swiers.  “The majority of people convert from propane so, they have to check their tank and often run out of product at inopportune times.  With that, there are usually after-hours delivery fees associated.  With natural gas, it is a metered product so it’s always there at your door when you need it.  That’s probably the biggest thing we hear about what they love about it after they have signed up and used it.  And then there is a cost-saving associated with it.  Once you have your up-front conversion costs done it’s historically a cheaper product to keep your home or business operating.  Those are the two biggest things that people bring up, the convenience of it and the cost savings of it.”
