Ray Berg – Obit

Ray Berg, 81, died December 30, 2018, at Bethany On The Lake nursing home in Alexandria. Ray was born April 6, 1937, in Bagley, to Arthur and Ragna (Widseth) Berg. Ray graduated from high school in McIntosh and attended Concordia College in Moorhead. He married Jean Christenson in 1962 raising four children in Crookston before divorcing in 1981. Ray had a varied career. He sold insurance and Berg’s BBQ mix, helped operate two cafes (the B&B Cafe in McIntosh, established by his parents, and the B&B Jr Cafe in Crookston), drove taxi, and sold auto parts at McIntosh Co-Op Creamery & Repair Shop. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McIntosh. His hobbies included singing in church choir and barbershop groups and fishing. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Nicole Names, brother Carlin, and brother-in-law Jerry Bjerken. He is survived by daughter Melanie (Gary Knutson), sons Mark (Renée Beltrand) and Steve (Mary), sister Sue Bjerken, brothers Chuck (Marge) and John (Sue), son-in-law Mitch Names, sister-in-law Barb Berg, grandchildren Derek, Erika, Jenifer, Steele, Skye, Jett, Grace and Gretta, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service this spring at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McIntosh. Private interment. The family wishes to thank the staff at Bethany, Mitch Names and nephew Joe Berg for their help with Ray’s end of life care. Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements with Anderson’s on Broadway in Alexandria. Funeral services for Raymond L. Berg will be held Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 145 S. State St, McIntosh, MN at 11 a.m. Lunch will follow at the church after the service. The Funeral service scheduled for Saturday, April 13 has been postponed due to poor weather and road conditions.
