RED LAKE COUNTY BASEBALL FALLS TO ABW AND BEATS NORTHERN FREEZE

The Ada-Borup-West Cougars scored five runs in the first inning and three more in the sixth inning to beat the Red Lake County Rebels 8-4 in the second round of the Section 8A Baseball tournament at Robert Norland Field in Fertile.

FIRST INNING
Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. ABW’s Brennan Fetting singled to lead off the bottom of the inning. Cameron Spaeth walked, and Austin McCraven doubled to center field to score two runs. McCraven tried to stretch his double into a triple, and the throw went off his helmet, allowing him to reach and score for a 3-0 lead. After an out, Ames Fassino and Lance Kritzberger walked. Cannon Anderson singled to load the bases. After a strikeout, Casper Kritzberger stuck his bat out and blooped a single to right field to score two runs for a 5-0 lead.

SECOND INNING
Red Lake County’s Blake Audette led off the inning with a double and Colin Taggert followed with a single. After a Sacrifice bunt, Blake Breiland grounded out to score a run.
ABW’s Spaeth singled to start the bottom of the inning before the next three batters were retired.

THIRD INNING
With one out, Red Lake County’s Will Gieseke singled, and Ben Gullingsrud doubled before the next two batters were retired.
The first two ABW batters struck out before Wyatt Larson singled, and Casper Kritzberger was hit by a pitch. The next batter was retired, and the thread was over.

FOURTH INNING
Colin Taggert led off the fourth inning with a single, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and moved to third on an error. After an out, Blake Breiland walked, and Gunnar Halverson singled to score a run. Ashtin Fredrickson grounded out, and another run scored on the play to get within a 5-3 deficit.
ABW’s Spaeth walked, and McCraven was hit by a pitch before the next three batters were retired.

FIFTH INNING
Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. ABW’s Anderson singled but the next three batters were retired.

SIXTH INNING
Red Lake County’s Taggert led off the inning with a double, and after two outs, Kegan Schmitz reached on an error. Fredrickson doubled to the right-center field gap to score a run, and it looked like they scored another run to tie the game, but the Ada-Borup-West coach said the Rebel baserunner didn’t touch home plate, and the umpire agreed for the third out of the inning with ABW leading 5-4.
ABW started the bottom of the inning with a single but the lead runner was out on a fielder’s choice. Baron Odden followed with a single before Fassino singled to score a run. Lance Kritzberger was hit by a pitch before Anderson singled to score two runs for an 8-4 lead.

SEVENTH INNING
Red Lake County had a great start to the inning when Gieseke singled, Gullingsrud, and Brock Seeger walked to load the bases. The next three batters were retired, and ABW won the game 8-4.

Red Lake County drops to 13-6 on the year and will play the Northern Freeze in a loser-out game at 6:00 p.m.  Ada-Borup-West improves to 15-4 on the year and plays Sacred Heart.

GAME TWO – VS NORTHERN FREEZE
The Red Lake County Rebels scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back on their way to an 8-0 victory over the Northern Freeze in a loser-out game in the Section 8A Baseball tournament.

FIRST INNING
The Northern Freeze had a single with one out before the next two batters were retired.
Red Lake County’s first two batters were retired before they broke the game open. Brock Seeger and Blake Audette got things going with back-to-back singles, and Colin Taggart walked to load the bases. Keegan Schmitz singled to score two runs, and Blake Breiland singled to score two more runs for a 4-0 lead. Boe Nelson singled to score a run, and Ashtin Fredrickson singled. Will Gieseke singled in his second at-bat of the inning and singled to score two runs for a 7-0 lead. 

SECOND INNING
The first Northern Freeze batter walked before the next two batters were retired. The next two batters reached to load the bases before the next batter was retired.
Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. 

THIRD INNING
Northern Freeze was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. Red Lake County’s first two batters were retired before Ashtin Fredrickson walked. The next batter was retired. 

FOURTH INNING
Northern Freeze was retired in 1-2-3 fashion for the second inning in a row. Red Lake County’s Ben Gullingsrud singled, advanced to second base on a balk, and to third base on a wild pitch. After an out, Blake Audette doubled to score a run for an 8-0 lead.

FIFTH INNING
Northern Freeze made some substitutions to get more players in with the game on the lopsided end and wasn’t able to score.
Red Lake County’s Boe Nelson walked with two outs before the next batter was retired.

SIXTH INNING 
Northern Freeze singled with one out before the next two batters were retired. 
Red Lake County’s Gullingsrud singled with one out before the next two batters were retired.

SEVENTH INNING 
The first two Northern Freeze batters were retired. After a single, the next batter was retired, and Red Lake County won the game 8-0 to improve to 14-6 on the year and will play Blackduck at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at Jim Karn Field in Crookston. Northern Freeze ends their season with a 9-10 record.
